New Zealand Salmon Farming

The New Zealand salmon farming industry has grown from a small group of pioneers to world class producers of a premium and unique salmon species - King (Chinook) salmon. Initially introduced as a game fish in the late 19th century, salmon farming began in the 1980s.

Currently, New Zealand-farmed King salmon is exported to over 35 countries and is widely available in local supermarkets and restaurants throughout New Zealand.
